The Deer Collection started many years ago when I went sketching in the Natural History Museum in the 1990’s.
I loved being with these bones and matter, drawing all sorts of rare skulls.
I fell in love with the Great Irish Elk that graced the doorway of the museum and spent many hours sketching the skulls of all the varieties of deer skull.
In 2014 on an residency in Abu Dhabi I created a collection of large oil on canvas paintings.
Abu Dhabi translates as “Father of the Deer” or so I’ve been told.
I was drawn back to my sketches and in particular to this little A3 pencil sketch as inspiration.
I loved the shape and symmetry of it.
I continue to paint the deer here and aroud the world.
